In
Hamilton, Ontario, a worker is making a bag from the same procedures used to
make the sleeping mats. These bags are
very durable. In
Haiti, we have been using these bags as Layette Bags. When a mother has a baby, we give her a set
of clothes for her new baby, and two diapers, a bar of soap and a
toothbrush. When she goes home, this
bag which came to her holding her precious baby things, goes home as a
'diaper bag' and a market bag. We
also use these to hold Patient Care Kits.
A Patient Care Kit is a washcloth, bar of soap, towel, toothbrush,
toothpaste, shampoo, and any toiletry items which we give to each patient
before surgery, so they can have a shower and wash the muddy mountain roads
off. After their shower, their clothes
are safely kept in the bag during surgery.
A simple well made bag becomes a valuable thing. These
Layettes and Patient Care Kits are precious to the people receiving them, and
the bags they come in are used over and over again. |
